With its red post boxes, fish and chip shops and Morrisons supermarket, Gibraltar has plenty of British touches, but the weather is not one of them! Thanks to its geographical location at the southernmost point in Europe, you can enjoy mild temperatures, beautiful blue skies and long, balmy evenings.
January is the coldest month, although the average temperature barely drops below 14°C (57°F). August is the warmest, with a mean temperature of 25°C (77°F) and highs of 30°C (86°F). Annual rainfall is around 700mm.
Gibraltar experiences mild, rainy winters and hot, sunny summers. However, they’re not really comparable to the climate in popular tourist spots along Spain’s south coast. Its location on the Strait of Gibraltar, where the Mediterranean meets the Atlantic, creates a unique microclimate.
Gibraltar’s weather is governed by the “Levante and Poniente“, winds that blow through the Strait from the east or west respectively. Levante is the predominant wind from May to September, bringing warm and humid conditions. This warm, moist air from the Mediterranean can create a persistent veil of cloud that hangs over the Rock. The westerly wind comes from the Atlantic Ocean and brings hot, clear and mostly dry weather. These winds are more frequent from October to April.
